In February 2011, I (Jane Coley) received a question on my blog (janesjournalfromkenya.blogspot) about head coverings for women. The question was from a woman of Amish/Mennonite background and I thought the interaction would be interesting to read.
From Missionary Momma:
Have you considered covering your head?
My response:
No. And this is why. - The books of first and second Corinthians are Paul’s writings to the Christians at the church of Corinth, and his purpose was to settle the contentions that were in the church, and there were many.
To this particular contention (concerning a head covering on women when they pray) Paul’s response is given in verse 16 "But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God."
Paul’s addressing of this contention (found in I Corinthians 11:3-15) is structured in such a way that he:
1.) defines the contention in their understanding; basically he was telling them - this is what you do and this is why I understand you do it,
2.) Paul clarifies the Word of God by stating a woman’s head/authority is her husband,
3.) And for added emphasis, Paul states a woman’s head is already covered with her hair,
4.) Then, to wrap things up, Paul ends this discussion with... "we have no such custom...".
Thank you for your question.
From Missionary Momma:
"The books of first and second Corinthians are Paul’s writings to the Christians at the church of Corinth." Do you also dismiss the Lord's Supper which is in the very same chapter?
If the covering is only hair, what does 1 Cor. 11:5 mean? How does a woman dishonor her head?
Are you suggesting that Paul goes into a discussion on a woman's covering and why she should wear one only to end by saying "we have no such custom"?
Paul says "we have no custom" of being contentious about the practice of covering. Why? It was, to the apostle an obvious conclusion from the created order (v 14) and to the angels looking on (v 10).

Beginning a Military Ministry - Integrating Military Families into Your Church

When military people are saved and discipled they make great church members. They are different than the average church member due to the nature of their work:
- They may not be in your church as long as your average civilian members.
- They must be integrated on purpose.
- There is the possibility that they have been trained in a good military church.
- Don’t treat them as outsiders. Realize their great need and their great potential for the cause of Christ. Below are some pointers on integrating military families into your church.
- The children—they have moved many times and need to be embraced quickly by members, teachers, and other children.
- The teenagers—the teenagers have made friends and left them on more than one occasion. The best teenagers in the church must reach out to the military teens.
- The wife—she has many special needs. She needs a good Christian friend. One who will be there when troubling news comes (his unit came under attack—or worse). She needs a weekly opportunity for a mother’s day out. Forming a support group for wives of deployed soldiers would be a great blessing. She needs an accessible, loving pastor’s wife. She needs to be offered the opportunity to serve in the church. Many times in a well established church every job is filled by an ‘old timer,’ and the military wife is looked upon as temporary. Make a place for her to serve. Be there for her. Keep in touch with her regularly. Someone should know about the car or any repair that needs to be done at the house. The teens could be led to take care of the yard while her husband is deployed.
- Pray for soldiers privately.
- Pray for soldiers publicly. Call their names in church meetings, Sunday school classes, prayer meetings, and the pulpit.
- Correspond with deployed soldiers.
- Send deployed soldiers gift boxes periodically.
- Lead your people or a class to adopt a deployed soldier and his family.

3 New Twists of an Old Competition
Author: Stephen Benefield
Using games is a great way to help information stick with your students. That’s probably why so many Sunday school teachers, youth pastors, and other people who work with kids and teens use Bible drills. In addition to helping people to become more adept at finding passages in their Bibles, they can also generate some excitement in a particular class or gathering. Here in Cambodia, we use a variety of games and activities with all ages (even the adults) to keep people involved, learning, and smiling.
But one of the problems with games is that if they are overused, people will lose interest. If you have quit using Bible drills because they seem too old and stale, here are three fresh versions which may liven up your next class, youth meeting, or even family devotions.
1. Grab-the-Object Bible Drills
The basic idea: The first person to find the verse, identify the object in the verse, and grab the object from a table in front of the room wins the round.
The details: Find verses which have easily obtained objects in them. (For example: a cross, a stuffed animal sheep, a key, a candle, a Bible, bread, etc.) When you call out the verse to the class, instead of standing and reading the verse, they have to look for what object is mentioned in the verse, and then run up to the front of the class and grab the right object. The first person to grab the correct object wins that round and obtains a point for their team. In order to keep the students guessing, put many items out on the table which are not found in any of the verses.
2. Elimination Bible Drills
The basic idea: When a player wins a round, they get to eliminate a player of their choice from the other team, until one team is out of players.
The details: This version of Bible drills needs an equal number of players on each team. If your have a large class, it is best to only play with a few selected players so the game doesn’t go too long. We always have people who are new and don’t really want to play, but they enjoy cheering on their side or their team.
Ask each side for volunteers to represent their team. We usually use 4 players per team, and it takes about 5 minutes to play. If you have the space, it is fun to have the players from each team sit in the front and face the audience. If you don’t have the room for that, just leave them in their seats. Proceed to call out the Bible drills in the traditional way, but each time a player wins a verse, they get to select a player of the opposite team to eliminate from the game. This goes on until one team has lost all of their players.

The following post is from some childhood friends of ours, I hope you read this post, and help if you can. Fred and Jessica Roberts
I would like to share an opportunity to help my friends, Denny and Angela Madory, to get Bibles, tracts and other much needed ministry materials/supplies to Kenya. They are independent Baptist missionaries sent out of Southwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Pastor Jason Gaddis. They are in the states on furlough now and plan to return to Kenya at the end of July. They have completely depleted their ministry supplies and need to replenish. Mrs. Angela created an event on facebook and I have copied the description here. Below that is information from Bro. Denny on where to send money if you would like to be involved in this worthwhile cause. I am excited to be a part of it and I hope that you will please get involved too! I know any amount will help! Mrs. Angela commented that if they could just get 200 people to give $50 each it would cover it or if everyone that was invited gave 20 we could have sent 2 containers by now! I hope you will consider it and pray that God will meet their need and then see if you can be a part of making that happen. If you would like to read more about the Madory’s and their ministry in Kenya their website is www.dennymadory.com. Last year God did some pretty amazing things in my life and made it possible for me to spend a month in Kenya with their family and I saw their ministry first hand. If you would like to read about my trip to Kenya my blog is www.beyondwhatweimagine.blogspot.com.
“Our ministry in Kenya has been given 3000 Bibles, 2 Million gospel tracts, several boxes of vacation bible school materials, sunday school curriculum, etc... Also, churches all over the U.S. have had "Happy meal toy drives” for kids in Kenya and we have containers full and ready to go. Someone donated a beautiful piano to our church in Kenya. Plus many other things for the work there in East Africa. We have been very blessed, BUT, now all of these wonderful materials will all be left here in America unless we can somehow raise the funds to ship them to Kenya. The cost to purchase the container and ship it to Kenya is 10,000 to 12,000 dollars. The container cost is roughly 3,800 dollars! When the container arrives in Kenya we will be converting it into a building to use at our church. Will you help??? Individuals,churches,etc... anyone can help! If you want to get involved in getting Bibles to Kenya contact us at: Dennymadory@me.com or angela.madory@me.com for ways to help. We must ship the container no later than the first of July! Please post here anyway you might be able to help!We will keep everyone updated here as things progress! THANK YOU!
All donations and support should be mailed to our sending church which acts as our mission board/clearing house. Any checks should be written to: Southwest Baptist Church and then memo the check or attach a note designating to me or specifically such as Madory Container or Madory Sunday School Building, etc.

A Life Lesson From Kids

I did nursery for the Graduation Preaching Conference at Heartland Baptist Bible College and got to see some cute kids!! One of them, who we'll call Mark, found great pleasure in constantly trying to escape the "Walkers' Room" and explore bigger and better places. We couldn't turn our backs for more than five seconds, or he would be gone! I started thinking about how adults are the same way, but on a much larger scale.
Mark thought his greatest sense of fulfillment could be found "out there." He disregarded the many toys and friends within the walls and focused all of his time and energy on somehow getting "out there." He wanted to be free. There was so much to see and do if he could only escape. What he didn't know about the great beyond, however, was that there was uncovered outlets, hard floors, and dangerous objects laying around that could harm him if swallowed.
Does this sound familiar? So many young people are obsessed with pushing the limits, climbing the fence, and living on the edge, but don't realize that what lies beyond will hurt them. Looking outside his small room, Mark saw a huge playroom with lots of space to roll around. Being a nursery worker, I saw more than that -- I looked past the fun and saw a floor he could easily trip and break a tooth on and a nail that Maintenance had accidentally dropped on the floor, which any two year old would swallow without giving it a second thought. As an adult, I saw many dangers Mark didn't... but he didn't seem to appreciate my forethought and wisdom.
As a young person, you will discover boundaries set around you that you might not completely understand. You might wonder why your youth pastor advises against dating in high school or why your mom won't let you drive around with friends past midnight. Like Mark, you might be peeking through the door thinking, "But it looks like so much fun!" and fighting to be free. You might grow aggravated when your authorities keep pulling you back into your "cage" and not telling you why you can't go out there. You become convinced that your greatest sense of fulfillment is outside of these boundaries.

I wish I could paint a pretty picture of "PEACE." It would have waterfalls all over, birds singing happily, rain drops falling in the water, big green trees all around,a big beautiful blue sky, a perfect sun shiny day,. Most of all there would be a heart that is quiet, a soul that rests in the knowledge that God is holding me in His Hand, nerves that are still, eyes that see only "HIM." A mind that can bring back to memories all His great promises, how he holds the sea within its bounds, that He can calm the wind and that the sea obeys His will. That He is my maker, My God, My Saviour, My Lord, and my friend. He is all powerful, all knowing, and He makes the world go round. There is not a hair on my head that He is not aware of its being, there is not a hurt that I have suffered that He did not comfort, there is not a pain that my body has felt that He did not give relief. There is no confusion that has enter my mind that He did not help me to see clearly. There has been no evil that has over took me that He did not give me the power to over come!
Now, why would I be afraid of flying? Of heights? of water? of speed, yea, even of snakes?lol The only reason that I can think of is "ME." I am trusting in myself. Now with me that is a different story....
I am afraid of the shadows of the night, of the lightening, of the wind, of falling from a high place, of water getting over my head, of losing one that I love so dearly, of the betrayal of family or friend, getting an illness that could mean death, of great pain, of lots of blood. And then.....
The Mission Field!

The mission field is a synonym often used to describe the areas where the Gospel has had little exposure. Our thoughts immedietly go to the far east of China or Israel, or to the many areas of Africa. No doubt these places need diligent missionaries and evangelists. In fact I hope to God that godly men and women with a heart for these places rise up and go take the Gospel to those people.
The Gospel is for everyone, because in the sight of God all men are without excuse. they shall go to hell if they die in their sins. God is no respector of persons, the Jew or the Greek. The only people He favours are those who are washed in the blood of Christ. For everyone else, there are these chilling words.
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. ~ John 3 v36
So the burden of reaching the lost far and wide is prevalent indeed and should occupy our hearts, as God's people, because we know the truth. The Bible says "Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; "
What I wanted to say though is this. The mission field needn't necessarily be hundreds of miles away though. Right where we live wherever we are, there are lost people all around us.
The world we live in happens to be a culturally diverse place, speaking of my home town of London, you do not have to travel far to reach people from every walk of life. I believe in the notion of "six degrees of separation" in that between you and another person in the world there is a gap of six people. You want to reach the world? why not reach the people around you and right where you are.

The poetic power of the King James Bible is part of our heritage. Around the world people have been comforted by the words, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” They have been challenged by, “Be strong and of good courage.” They have celebrated with the proclamation, “Fear not . . . For unto you is born in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
The early 16th century was a tumultuous time in Britain. England had been Catholic for more than 1,000 years, but when Pope Clement refused to annul the marriage of King Henry VIII, Henry separated the Church of England from the Church in Rome.
While Henry was still Catholic, William Tyndale sought permission to translate the Bible into English so that even “a boy who drives the plow” might know Scripture. Permission was denied, and Tyndale moved to Germany where he completed the first translation of the English New Testament made from Greek. It was published in 1526, and over the next ten years 50,000 copies were smuggled into England. Tyndale was betrayed, captured, and in 1536 killed for the crime of publishing the New Testament in English.
Although his body was burned at the stake, Tyndale had unleashed an enormous demand for Bibles in “the vulgar English tongue.” A number of translations were printed, including the Bishops’ Bible and the immensely popular Geneva Bible, which was the Bible Shakespeare read and the Bible Puritans carried to New England.
Elizabeth I, who reigned from 1558 to 1603, sought to bring peace among religious factions. But more importantly for our story, varied creative forces came together then to form the most splendid age in English literature. James VI of Scotland was a product of this season of creativity. When James VI became king of all Great Britain and Ireland in 1603, he called a conference to try to settle differences between Anglicans and Puritans. Out of this conference came the decision to create a new translation of the Bible.
Fifty-four scholars labored nearly seven years. In spite of its title page saying that the KJV was “newly translated,” the committees were instructed to follow the Bishops’ Bible when possible. Because the Bishops’ Bible depended on the work of Tyndale, more than 80% of the KJV is Tyndale’s wording. The KJV was published in 1611 and within 50 years it was the dominant English translation of the Bible—a position it held for 300 years.
Wherever the British went to build an empire—either for their monarch or for their God—the King James Version went too. When a clergyman in Scotland read the Scripture, when a student in America memorized a Bible verse, when a speaker in India or Australia told a story from the Bible, they all used the same words from the King James Version.
The King James Bible is the best-selling English-language book of all time. It has been in print continuously for 400 years. It has helped form our language; it has given context to our literature; it has inspired our music; and for centuries it was the one book a family would own and read before all others.

I went with the local Gideons out to one of the area high schools last week to hand out New Testaments to the kids as they got out of school. We’ve been kicked out of the public schools for a long time now, so we just stand across the street from the school near one of the major crosswalks. One of the things that really bugs me is that even though we’re standing on a public sidewalk and have every right as American citizens to be there, some people call the cops on us! I guess freedom only applies as long as you’re doing what other people like.
No one called the cops on us last week (thank You Lord!). In fact, it was pretty tame compared to past years. Two years ago, one of the Gideons gave a kid a Testament, and the kid went to the parking lot behind where the Gideons were standing, lit the little Testament on fire, then threw it at the Gideon and hit him on the back. There were no injuries, and the Gideon’s coat wasn’t burned or anything, but you have to wonder about the state of that kid’s heart to do something so disgraceful. Worse yet, what must his parents be like?
Last year when I was there at the same spot handing out Testaments, we heard a commotion in the parking lot behind us. I turned around just in time to see that some of the kids had piled up their Testaments and were jumping them on their skateboards. Shameful. Now it hasn’t been THAT many years since I was in high school (okay, be nice ) and I could not imagine someone being that shameful at my high school. Of course, not everyone there was a professing Christian, but everyone had respect for the Bible.
Well, this year I had my five year old son with me. Since he’s not a Gideon, he’s not allowed to hand out the Testaments but that didn’t stop him from evangelizing! He told me to load him up with Gospel tracts and he stood next to me handing them out as fast as he could. (Sometimes I get really convicted that I’m not as bold as him)
He would wave his hand over his head and say “Gospel messages! Who wants a Gospel message?” Of course, I was thinking to myself “You can’t just announce that you have Gospel messages. Nobody’s gonna want one!” And of course I was wrong. I was really encouraged to see people steer toward him to take a Gospel message from the cute little boy. In fact, several people took a tract from him but refused a New Testament from me!

I wanted to post this as a resource. It has an excellent salvation message, please share on social networks such as Facebook. I know the man whose site is mentioned at the end, and can recommend him. He does a great job explaining salvation, and the chalkboard examples are a particular favorite of mine. All verses are in KJV.

Blogger has been down, as I'm sure all of you are aware. I thought you all might be interested in the post made today on Blogger's blog explaining the issue. Here is a link: http://buzz.blogger.com/2011/05/blogger-is-back.html.
Many of you lost your posts and comments published recently. Blogger explains that they had to roll back to a version of Blogger as of Wednesday, May 11, and the posts and comments were temporarily removed. According to this article, in the next few hours Blogger will be restoring the posts and comments that were removed.
I am so grateful to have the Blogger service. I am amazed that this is offered for free. I can't begin to imagine how many people it takes to make Blogger work. So many thousands of blogs, some going back for years! It all works so seamlessly most of the time. I am also grateful for the blessing of coming in contact with so many like-minded people through blogs. It truly has been a blessing.

Lord, I must be yours alone.
Teach me I am not my own.
Crush and mold this heart of stone.
In your image make it.
Willful, stubborn, Lord, it's true-
I do what I want to do.
Let me learn to follow you.
Take my will and break it.
From my self I would be free.
Take all my identity,
Fill with your humility.
Seize my pride and shake it.
When a helpless wreck I am,
Take me and rebuild the sham
To be like the Living Lamb,
My life, on Him I stake it.
Lord, I Must Be Yours - http://www.godlychristianmusic.com/music/play2.aspx?id=557&type=song.mp3 Additionally, this was written my a friend of mine, Abigail Miller, whose husband, Paul is a member of IFBKJV.com!
This website has original songs from singer/songwriters. You have to weed through them, but there are many very nice songs to choose from. They have some really cute kid's songs and teen choruses. I am always looking for new songs to sing in church that others may have never heard of. There are also a lot of scripture songs, but be aware, not all use the KJV.

CONNIE'S THOUGHTS FROM THE HEART

JAMES 3:8....BUT THE TONGUE CAN NO MAN TAME ;IT IS AN UNRULY EVIL ,FULL OF DEADLY POISON.

10 COMMANDMENTS FOR THE TONGUE:
01. THOU SHALT NOT GOSSIP.
Before any evil story whispered in the ear is passed on, it should be treated as the housewife treats apples for a pie....first peeled, then quartered, and cored, then what remains, liberally sugared.
PROVERBS 18:8...The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
02. THOU SHALT NOT USE A MULTITUDE OF EMPTY WORDS.
Your tongue reveals the nature of your thinking and your character. The divine Master Himself, admonishes the children of men to "let your admonishes be yea, yea, nay, nay, for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil."
PROVERBS 10:19...In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
03. THOU SHALT NOT BOAST.
A small man makes long, loud boasting in order to center the spot light of attention on himself; the great man works quietly, silently polishing the beacon that it may guide the ship safely into the desired haven.
PROVERBS 27:2.....Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
04.THOU SHALT NOT FLATTER.
Someone has said, "flattery is like soft soap, its 99% lye"....and you can count on the ratio being just about right. The words of a man or woman who would flatter you, according to the Psalmist, who had a great deal of experience with that sort of thing, are "softer than oil, yet with drawn swords."
05. THOU SHALT NOT GRUMBLE.
The prescription for this malady is to saturate your life with loving kindness...Let it enter every pore and the process will be absolutely foolproof against the gnawing frets and worries that are worse than termites, to eat the soul out of you.
PHILIPPIANS 2:14...Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
PHILIPPIANS 2:15..That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
06, THOU SHALT NOT BACKBITE OR SLANDER.
The tongue that backbites is the tongue that empties Churches, pours streams of bickering humans into divorce courts, fills our jails with wretched humanity, and lashes men and women to Satan's kingdom.
PSALM 64:3...Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
07. THOU SHALT NOT MOCK OR MAKE FUN.
Let us learn sympathy and give our fellows a helping hand instead of mockery, no matter how peculiar or odd they maybe. Remember Angels visit the earth in all kind of guises.
JOB 11:3....Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?
08. THOU SHALT NOT LIE.
The first recorded lie was told in the garden of Eden.Since then, the practice has spread like a plaque throughout the whole earth. Everyone hates a lying tongue.
EXODUS 20:16....Thy shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
09. THOU SHALT NOT SWEAR.
Profanity is the official language of the devil's kingdom. Have not part in it for it will disqualify you for heaven.
EXODUS 20:7....Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.
10. THOU SHALT NOT ARGUE IN ANGER.
What ever the provocation is, remember that "Silence is golden" and "a soft answer turneth away wrath, but grievious words stir up anger."
HOSEA 7:16....They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword FOR THE RAGE OF THEIR TONGUE:this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

I have come to see that pride and the sins of the tongue are some of the worst sins of all. They cause people to do and say things that if they were in their right minds,it would not happen.I have been guilty before of some of the things, have you?
Shine an imaginary mirror on to the thoughts and motives of your heart. Are they pure? Are do we act from interior motives that other may not know about? Shine it deeply, what do you see there? Was that word or action necessary? or was it PRIDE, having its perfect work? Have we used our tongues to breakdown, hurt, destroy, for our own purposes? Do we stretch the truth so much that it has become lies?
OR
Do we use our tongues to build up, encourage to teach good things to others? Do others see Christ is all our words and actions? Do we tell others how they can be saved and become a new creature and then we act like the devil's own disciple? Do we have good and sweet things come from our mouths, or do we use them for bitterness and hate?
In JAMES 3:BUT THE TONGUE CAN NO MAN TAME ;IT IS AN UNRULY EVIL ,FULL OF DEADLY POISON.
We know this verse is true because it was written by the inspiration of the Holy spirit. It is true therefore that ''NO MAN CAN TAME THE TONGUE!" It can only be tames by letting the Holy Spirit take control of it and uses it in the right way. The way that God intended it to be used. We will be held accountable for how we use our tongue.
As with all other sins, when we see that we have sinned, we have only one option opened to us. We realize we have sinned, we are full of sorrow over our sins and we ask with a repentant heart for God to forgive us. He promises that He will do it in 1john 1:9....If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. God can not lie!In 2Corinthians 7:10-11 says.....verse 10....For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. It has to be real sorrow unto true repentance not something make believe just for the world to see.
Verse 11 says.....For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, WHAT CAREFULNESS IT WROUGHT IN YOU, YEA, WHAT CLEARING OF YOURSELVES, YEA, WHAT VEHEMENT DESIRE, YEA, WHAT ZEAL, YEA, WHAT REVENGE! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
Don't our hearts ache when we know we have done wrong, We don't have peace, any peace with anyone. We have no joy or happiness, only the make believe kind. It has not been worth it to me in the past. When we take the steps that God gives, then we can have peace and joy overflowing. We can have a clean heart, a restful mind. Our balance is restored because our fellowship with our Lord is restored. I love that last sentence of the above verse....."IN ALL THINGS YE HAVE APPROVED YOURSELVES TO BE CLEAR IN THIS MATTER. connie

Beating Post HS Challenges
By Cary Schmidt (published by permission)
Have you ever seen a train wreck? There’s not a much more vivid metaphor than the unbridled collision of several tons of moving metal resulting in twisted steel, broken glass and an industrial disaster of gargantuan proportions. Too often we see high school graduates celebrate their graduation night and start down the tracks of adulthood only to wreck their lives just a few miles from the train station!
This is the time of year we see our graduates “commence”—begin their adult lives, their post-high school years; so I thought it would be appropriate to consider the top three challenges facing every graduate. It could be stated that these are the first big and immediate tests that confront a young adult immediately after high school. If they pass these tests, they avoid the bad decisions that can lead to a spiritual train wreck. Perhaps these thoughts will be helpful to you as you prepare graduates for adulthood!
1. The Challenge of a Job—Exodus 20:9-10 says, “Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God.” God created us to work and expects us to lead productive lives. (Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.”) And every young adult is excited about having that first job! Mine was making Big Macs at McDonalds. What a joy. And yet, so many young people allow their job to become their first spiritual downfall—often within a few weeks of high school graduation. How?
They Work at the Wrong Place—even in a tough economy, starter jobs are pretty easy to find—especially for hard working, honest, and clean-cut young people. It’s amazing how many Christians will take jobs at places that a Christian has no business working. No amount of money is worth corrupting your heart and mind, so teach young adults to be selective about work environments. It is possible to work in the world without “eating the king’s meat.” For every Christian, there ought to be some places we just wouldn’t work, no matter what.
They Work at the Wrong Time—the first test of a new job is Sunday work. How is it that we can toss God and His church aside for $7.50 an hour? One of the greatest reasons young people fall away from God after high school is that they stop attending church because of work! But for those who honor God’s commands and protect Sunday, God always provides for their needs in a better way. I’ve watched it hundreds of times over the years—God always takes care of those who protect His day and who stay deliberately and faithfully involved in their local church.
They Work for the Wrong Purpose—some young people view their new job as nothing more than a way to meet new friends and buy clothes or iPods, while others see it as a temporary means to a more important end and a way to be a witness for Christ. Those with a higher purpose—pursuing the will of God—always keep their job in check and view it as an opportunity to facilitate God’s will in other areas.
2. The big challenge is that of friends. Daniel chapter 1 is one of the greatest lessons on friendship in the entire Bible. Because one man took at stand, three others stood with him—regardless of the rest of the crowd. And in the end, all four of them ended up 10 times better than everyone else in the realm! What a huge lesson on carefully choosing friends and being willing to walk away from the wrong crowd.
After graduation—those who choose the wrong crowd basically choose the wrong life! It’s that simple.
Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Nothing changes more rapidly after high school than friendships! A new job, less time with youth group friends, and college brings a whole new world of associations into the life of a young adult. This is a wonderful opportunity that brings with it some danger for those unprepared. Essentially, every graduate needs to understand how to draw a careful line between friends and acquaintances—defined as follows:

Lester Roloff Singing "Deeper Than the Stain Has Gone"

I had not heard this song in twenty years. I used to have an old cassette tape in Bible college, and what a blessing it was to listen to! When a friend posted this audio clip on Facebook, I knew I had to blog on it so I would have to to refer back to. Hope this is a blessing to you this Sunday:
Listen to Deeper Than The Stain Has Gone
(if it will not play, right click and SAVE it, then OPEN)
Listen to Deeper Than The Stain Has Gone
(if it will not play, right click and SAVE it, then OPEN)
Dark the stain that soiled man's nature,
Long the distance that he fell.
Far re-moved from hope and heav-en,
Into deep despair and hell.
But there was a fountain opened,
And the blood of God's own Son,
Purifies the soul and reaches
Deeper than the stain has gone!
Praise the Lord for full salvation,
God still reigns upon His throne.
And I know the blood still reaches
Deep-er than the stain has gone.
Long the distance that he fell.
Far re-moved from hope and heav-en,
Into deep despair and hell.
But there was a fountain opened,
And the blood of God's own Son,
Purifies the soul and reaches
Deeper than the stain has gone!
Praise the Lord for full salvation,
God still reigns upon His throne.
And I know the blood still reaches
Deep-er than the stain has gone.
